High calibre line up announced for Cornwall’s Climate Assembly

In the wake of COP26, the University of Exeter’s Institute of Cornish Studies announces a stellar line up for the Cornwall Climate Assembly on 1st December, where policy makers, researchers and local community members will discuss the big climate issues we need to address in Cornwall, if we are to become more sustainable.

Luke Pollard, MP and Shadow Secretary for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will join a panel of environmental policymakers and organisations, including Lizzy Carlyle, Head of Environmental Practices at the National Trust; Martyn Alvey, Portfolio Holder for Climate and Environment at Cornwall Council; Fiona Wotton, CEO at Creative Kernow; and Emmie Kell, CEO at Cornwall Museums Partnership.

The free online event, part of the University’s Green Futures series, will inform action on climate change and run on Wednesday 1 December from 12.30 -14.30. Leading University of Exeter academics from the Penryn Campus will give participants insight into specific areas that are key to the climate emergency.

Professor Clare Saunders will present the case for sustainable clothing; Professor Juliet Osborne will explore how we can protect our pollinators; Professor Steffen Boehm will show how we can better re-use our resources in a circular economy; Dr Ian Ashton will discuss marine renewables, such as offshore wind; and Professor Caitlin DeSilvey will examine the relationship between heritage and climate change.

Participants will then work in groups to consider the priorities and solutions that we might collectively adopt, in order to tackle climate change.

In the final part of this interactive and exciting event, participants will get to present their conclusions to the panel.
