Fabrizio Nevola creating digital tools to bring history to life

How do we experience history as we walk through a city? How can digital tools bring lost places back to life?

In this video, Professor Fabrizio Nevola shares his journey of using technology to explore the relationship between people and the built environment. As an urban and architectural historian, he has been at the forefront of using digital tools to transform our understanding of Renaissance cities.

His work on HistoryCity uses immersive, GPS-triggered mobile apps to reveal hidden histories in cities around the world. Through innovative collaborations with digital specialists and heritage institutions, his projects allow users to experience past urban spaces in new ways. For example, the Hidden Florence 3D app reconstructs lost buildings at a 1:1 scale, letting users ‘walk through’ demolished churches and reconnect artworks with their original settings.
