University of Exeter spin-out Attomarker is working with SYNLAB UK & Ireland to expand access to innovative Long Covid testing for healthcare professionals across the UK.
Synnovis, one of SYNLAB UK & Ireland’s four NHS partnerships, has signed Heads of Terms to introduce the Attomarker Long Covid Test, marking an important step towards making the technology more widely available.
Long Covid continues to affect millions of people worldwide, with patients experiencing a range of ongoing symptoms, including fatigue, cognitive difficulties and breathlessness.
Attomarker’s specialist blood test analyses aspects of a patient’s immune response, helping to identify different Long Covid response patterns. Used alongside broader clinical assessments, the test may provide additional insights to support healthcare professionals in evaluating and managing patients with complex symptoms.
The collaboration brings together Attomarker’s scientific innovation and SYNLAB’s established laboratory infrastructure, providing a potential route for the technology to be introduced into clinical practice at scale.
Professor Andrew Shaw, CEO and Founder of Attomarker, said: “The Long Covid Test carries a UKCA mark in the United Kingdom and we are working towards clearance in other countries. Working with SYNLAB means UK clinicians can reach it through laboratory infrastructure they already trust, and it is the kind of partnership we hope will one day take our tests a great deal further. For a university spin-out that matters, because the more our tests are used, the more we can concentrate on what we do best, which is building new ones for conditions where clinicians currently have very little to work with.”
